Question : Unable to expand the folder. The set of folders could not be opened. The server is not avalible. Contact your administrator if this condition persists.

Our office uses Lotus Notes, and I have been using the Outlook Notes Connector from MS to connect to our Domino server with almost no problems. I'd also been syncing my Windows Mobile PDA with Outlook with out any problems until about a week ago when it started giving me these "The server is busy" (85010017) errors.

In attempt to remedy my Pocket PC Sync I tried to create a new Outlook profile.  But when I tried to add the connection to our Domino server again trying to open my Outlook Connector for Domino email account would only result in the error:

"The set of folders could not be opened. The server is not available. Contact your administrator if this condition persists".

I should mention that I have a somewhat weird setup because my company does not install Outlook with our default office 2002 Installation, nor will they provide me with the installation files. So the only way I could get Outlook on my computer was to install my personal 2003 Copy. So I have Office 2002 installed with everything except Outlook, and Office 2003 SP3 installed with only Outlook. This may be part of the problem, but it was working a week ago.

I've searched all over the net for a solution to this including this site. In my last attempt I've done the following.


1) Uninstalled every Office and Outlook Hotfix that I could. Some did not have an option to uninstall I'm assuming this has something to do with the restrictions added by my company.
2) Repaired and Reinstalled Office 2003 with Outlook.
2) Deleted all mail profiles using Control Pannel->Mail
3) Deleted all files in my windows profile Outlook Documents and Settings folder.
4) Hard booted the computer
5) Installed Outlook Notes Connector


I am able to add the "Outlook Connector" mail account using the "additional server types" option. It finds my Notes ID file and shows the server name being "CN=mmail1/0=Mortenson" and the path to ID file as "eanastas.id". I click ok and it asks me to create a new NST file using the defaults. I do this and it tells me to restart outlook. When I restart a window pops up asking my for the password to my Notes ID file. I enter it and the Outlook Connector for Domino: Configuration window opens again showing the server and id file information. I press ok and it warns me about the Outlook Connector for Domino not being the default e-mail account, I do not make the account default and then try to click on the account to download mail. This is when I get the error message above.

Is there anything else I can try? This is extremely frustrating to me. I need some way to sync my PDA to Notes, plus Outlook is sooooo much easier to use then Notes. If you have any ideas please let me know.

1) Try creating a NEW windows User Profile and give it full Local admin rights.

Reinstall any programs if required and try again.

I would also suggest trying this on a spare computer.

What has changed recently ?
Any MS patches ?

Did you check your network connectivity and DNS ?
