Question : windows update hangs when checking for the latest updates
|

Windows update on a new install of windows xp w sp3 stopped working. At first it installed the updates fine and then they suddenly started to fail. I stopped the windows update service through the cmd prompt, re-registered it and then started it again. When I did that all the updates installed automatically and seemed to be working normally again. I then tried to run the windows update once more to see if there were anymore updates needed but now it just hangs forever while it's checking for the latest updates for my computer and if I let it go for a half hour or so it finally says pge cannot be displayed. Is the update site down or is there something more I need to do to fix my problem?
