Question : XP "Show the clock" defaulting to unchecked for new profiles

Hello.

I have a ghost image that we have been deploying and for some reason the computers with this new image are having the setting to show the clock in the system tray unchecked by default.

When they check it the clock appears and stays there just fine however.  It's a bit annoying as they have to do it for any computer or any user that logs in.

I have been trying to find a way to get it to show the clock by default but so far no joy.

I have tried adding the following registry key and nothing happened

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer]
"HideClock"=dword:00000000

I have also loaded up the Local Computer Policy and changed The Remove clock from system notification area" to disabled under  Local Computer Policy\User Configuration\Administrative Templates\Start Menu and Taskbar

And still when I login I get to clock.  If I manually set it to show the clock then the clock is there and stays there if I re-log or re-boot.

What else can I try to get it so that the clock is displayed by default for users when they login.

Thanks for any help gang.

Answer : XP "Show the clock" defaulting to unchecked for new profiles

you need to set this option within the default user profile. this way that any new user(or user that loses their profile) will obtain this result.

(((assuming you have the correct registry setting)))

test this

open up regedit on a test computer
click on HKey_Local_machine
click file - load hive
navigate to and select c:\documents and setting\default user\ntuser.dat
type 123 in the prompt for name
navigate to
123\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer
and make the registry change
click file - unload hive

now log in with a user account that doesn't have a profile and see if youe settings stay..

if they do, then upload and replace the ntuser.dat within your image
