Question : Windows Update Site Fails, Error: 0x80072efd
|
|
Let me state up front that I have been working on this for 2 days, and have tried the solutions suggested by Microsoft for this specific error, have tried solutions for other errors, and anything I have been able to find on the Internet that ever worked for anyone regarding the failure of Windows Update. I even tried a Windows XP Repair Install.
Please offer suggestions,if it has been tried I will state so. I have tried more things than my tired fingers can type here.
Here is a sample of the Windows Update log with the pertinent failure:

Answer : Windows Update Site Fails, Error: 0x80072efd

I'm guessing you did a google search and came up with this:
http://www.updatexp.com/0x80072efd.html
+ Last proxy send request failed with hr = 0x80072EFD, HTTP status code = 0 are you using a proxy? if not, maybe this just is one error you can ignore. My guess is that it WU does a proxy check depending on what your IE settings are.
WARNING: GetCookie failure, error = 0x80072EFD, soap client error = 5, soap error code = 0, HTTP status code = 200 Do you have you browser set to accept cookies?
Try connecting your computer directly to your dsl/cable modem and disabling/removing any hardware/software firewalls and/or security suites....if that works, therein lies your problem.
