Question : Can't ping/telnet after OS upgrade

Hi, just completed upgraded from AIX 4.3.3 to AIX 5.1.  Unable to ping the server or telnet into/out of it.   Ethernet cable is fine, shows light on port and works when switched to another server.

IP address, default route and gateway are correct in smit.  Is there something special that has to be configured to bring host onto network?  I'm new to AIX so no doubt have missed something obvious here..
