Question : Drop connection to DB using Backup Exec 10.0
|
|
Perioically I receive the following two errors in my application event logs on a windows 2003 Database server running Backup Exec 10.0
Event ID 34327 Update to catalog index (Catalog index database) failed. Reason: [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][DBNETLIB]ConnectionRead (recv()). cat_RecordSet::Open() d:\caicos\5484r\becat\beplugins\beimage\catimageiterator.cpp(467)
Event ID 34338 Backup Exec Alert: Catalog Error (Server: "HQJDEDB1") ODBC access error. Possible lost connection to database or unsuccessful access to catalog index in the database.
There are no backup jobs running at the time of the errors. My Peoplesoft ERP system database is on this server and whenever the Backup exec generates these errors a number of my users are dropped from there connection to the SQL database.
There are no other errors in the event log, and we do not see any errors on the network devices.
Any ideas as to what would cause the Backup Exec errors?

Answer : Drop connection to DB using Backup Exec 10.0

We run a fairly large Backup Exec environment (Central Admin server, 32 Managed Media servers, etc). We receive 2-3 of these errors every couple of weeks. BE Support stated it is not a problem as it will continue to retry accessing the database until it is successful. They also said it could point to network congestion, or network failure (neither of which were happing to us). Hope this helps.
