Question : MS SQL Server 2005 SP2 X64 Enterprise valid but is for machine type other than the current machine?

We are trying to install MS SQL Server 2005 X64 Enterprise SP2 onto Windows Server 2003 R2 Standard X64 ed. SP2. which is a new Dell server and only server updates installed.

The MS SQL Server media was downloaded from eOpen as an executable and gives the following message (path & file name is not verbatim see screen shot):

The image file D:\path to exe\MS SQL Server 2005 SP2 X64 Enterprise_X11-57796.EXE is valid, but is for a machine type other than the current machine.

After doing more digging I found that we are downloading the correct version since our server contains Xeons so X64 would apply but on Microsoft's website of system requirements it mentions that Ent. of SQL is compatible with Standard server 2003 but requires 'Tools native/WOW64'.

The event viewer event related to the installation is coming from the WOW64 layer. Again, server is patched to the required level.

So my question would be, what MS tools need to be installed for our installation to run?

Thank you!

Thank you for your comment!

We have solved this issue. The problem was due to the .exe install file taking a long time to download. So we downloaded it to our FTP server then from there to the install server where we are having issues. The file became corrupted during FTP transfer.

Downloaded the same file again, problem solved and MS SQL has been installed and configured.

Thank you,
Jason
