Question : Windows Xp Hang at Starting , Black Screen after winxp logo , only mouse works - can you help?

First of all hello to the community. As the title says I cannot start my laptop , black screeen , ctrl+alt+delete dont work. I tried safe mode and workind at c with commands , but nothing was fixed . The problem is that I have important databases in C and dont want to format. So I went to the pc store I bought it and ask the to make me copy of my hard drive and they answerd that they connected it with other machine but couldnt open my files. Im not sure they are so experts, more like saleman.

anyway my aim is

1. Fix problem if its simple and possible or

2. copy files from c to dvd  and then erase everyrhing and reinstall

Thank you all - I erased everything - installed vista at the moment , propably the problem was win xp service pack 3 , anyway good effort but no help found
