Question : Blue Screen of Death. WinXP doesn't start up after it crashed.

Some details about my computer that could help:

Motherboard - SOYO Dragon Lite
Hardrive - Western Digital 160 gig

Well here's the story... i was installing the Warcraft III patch 1.04 when suddenly my computer crashed after it was almost done installing! Now my computer gives me a blue screen after the WinXP loading screen. I can't get around the blue screen. I tried to re-format my computer, but my WinXP CD won't boot-up. This is the message on the blue screen they give me:

STOP: 0x00000024 (0x001902F8, 0xF9E846FC, 0xF9E843FC, 0xF996C411)

Ntfs.sys - Address F996C411 base at F98FE000, DateStamp 3b7dc5d0

What does this mean?! A person asked a similar question, but the solution required me to go to the recovery console, which i can't. HELP ME!!!

Answer : Blue Screen of Death. WinXP doesn't start up after it crashed.

You're Win XP cd should boot up, this is a function of your bios, with newer motherboards. If your bios is set  to allow a boot from your cd, but you can't then there must be something wrong with your cd drive, cable connection to your ide, or motherboard, or bios (try resetting your bios defaults). The ntfs.sys sounds like your hard drive is really corrupt, partioning must be bad. If this is the case, you'll probably have to format and reinstall Windows XP, not a simple task especially for a large hard drive.

You could try your Win XP cd in another pc, to see if it will boot. This will tell you that the cd is ok, if you have any questions about that. I doubt you can do a safe boot if you are failing with ntfs.sys.

Finally if you still can't boot from your cd or hard drive, and you know its not a problem with the bios, cables or mainboard, then you can find a Win 98 boot floppy disk and try that. This will check to see if your pc can boot at all, plus allow you to get into Windows. From there maybe you can repair your hard drive enough to get XP reinstalled. Good luck.
