Question : Missing mapped network drives because Novell Client cannot find Server.

I am missing mapped network drives pointed at one Novell server on 3 pc's running Winows XP.
We are using the Novell Client 4.90 Sp2 on 2 of the pc's and 4.91 Sp3 on the other one.  All other mapped network drives on these pc's are showing up except from the server that the pc does not see.  The server is up and running and All other pc's in the same context and department see that server and the drives fine.

1.  One way that resolved this for a little while was to type in one of our server names in the server field of the novell Client Login screen.  Then the drive would show up for the day and the next morning the user would have to type in the name of a different Novell server in order for the drive to show up again.  Pretty much bounce between the 2 servers every other day.

We are a Novell Network with a few Microsoft servers mixed in.  Use Active Directory and Edirectory.

Answer : Missing mapped network drives because Novell Client cannot find Server.

If it works *with* DHCP but does not *without* DHCP, then the problem is that you are not giving the client the information DHCP is passing to it.

Are you using Novell's DHCP, and sending service type 78 and 79 and 85 and 86 and 87?  How about DNS, type 6?

If the answer is yes to all, then, are you:

1) making sure the statically-assigned IP's get the exact same DNS servers listed in the DNS setup as what DHCP is passing, in the same sequence?
2) Specifying the domain suffix in the TCP/IP advanced config?
3) Specifying in the Novell Client32 Properties, Service Location tab, the IP address of the DA server in the Directory Agent list?
4) If you're pushing service type 79, do you have the scope enterend in the Scope List of the Service Location tab as well?
5) If your NetWare servers *AND* tree name are not in DNS and resolvable with their hostname/short name, either fix it so they CAN be, or add them to the local PC's HOSTS file, in the format  ex: 10.10.10.10    servera    mytree
