Question : Remote Management Access Rights

In Computer Management, I connect to another computer, trying to manage it's Services and I get "Unable to open service control manager database" error with "access denied". Other items won't work either, showing access denied errors or just empty lists.
The same problem with Server Explorer in VS 2005.
Both systems are running Windows XP with all the latest updates and SP-s; firewalls disabled.
There is no domain in the system, just the two computers. The user name and password is the same in both computers and the user is member of Administrators group in both computers.
Is there any way to make this remote management work?

Answer : Remote Management Access Rights

Ok...  I just tested this on two workgroup XP Computers, both XP Pro..

The results are just what I said they would be..  I can use Computer Management to control the remote XP Pro laptop, and visa versa...

First thing I noticed that of course, Simple File Sharing must be turned off.

Here are the steps I took:

1.  Disable SFS on my laptop (surprised I had never done this, but..)
2.  Connected to the remote computer using the Run Line:  \\ipaddress\c$ /user:administrator
3.  The logon window appears, and I succesfully authenticate with the Admin Credentials
4.  Open Computer Management > Connect to Remote Computer > Used IP Address of remote computer
5.  Open Services on Remote Computer
6.  Successfully changed a variety of services

So, I now know for sure that you DO NOT need to be a domain member to use Remote Computer Management.

Sorry Lee...
