Question : Windows 2003 Group Policy Objects Applying over WAN

I am applying group policies to an additional domain in an existing forest, I have the additional domain controller set up as an Global Catalog, whenever I attach a group policy to the organizational unit at the local site and then log into a XP or Vista machine on the network; the policy i specified is pulling the policy across the WAN instead of the local global catalog sever at the local site which takes longer for users to log in, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, we are currently running Windows Server 2003.

Have you put the local domain controller in the correct site and also specified the subnets accordingly in AD sites and services?
