Question : default font in Adobe Illustrator

Is there a way to set a default font in illustrator,

like in ms word, I can always start out using Times New Roman???

Answer : default font in Adobe Illustrator

Well, they don't make it as easy as they should, but here's the process:

 To change the default font:

1. Quit Illustrator, locate the font that you want to be the default, and then open the AdobeFnt05.lst file (Illustrator 10 - don't know the name for sure in v.8) in a text editor like WordPad):

If the font is in the Program Files/Common Files/Adobe/Fonts folder, open the appropriate *.lst file in that folder. If the font is in another folder, open the appropriate *.lst file in the Program Files/Common Files/Adobe/TypeSpt folder.

2. Locate the FontName line for the desired font, and note its exact spelling, including spaces, hyphenation, and capitalization (you can "copy" the name).

3. Close the *.lst file.

4. Copy and rename the Illustrator preferences file, AIPrefs (\Program Files\Adobe\Illustrator 8.0\AIPrefs), as AIPrefs.old, then open AIPrefs with a text editor.

5. Locate the following line in the preferences file:

/faceName (Myriad-Roman)

6. Change "Myriad-Roman" to the font name you noted in the *.lst file, either by typing or pasting it in. Must be exact, including caps.

7. To change the default point size of text in Illustrator, locate the following line in the preferences file, and change "12.0" to the desired point size:

/faceSize 12.0

8. Save the file in **text-only format**, and then restart Illustrator.

If anything goes wrong, delete the AIPrefs and replace it with your AIPrefs.old file to return to where you started. Then try again.

Good luck!
