Question : DCOM was unable to communicate with the computer using any of the configured protocols

Occasionally when we send an email we get a DCOM 10009 error "DCOM was unable to communicate with the computer using any of the configured protocols".  Exchange runs on a Windows 2003 Standard Edition server with SP2.

If I look in Exchange System manager - Message Tracking Center, I can see the sent email with the last line in message history saying "Message transferred to xxxx through SMTP"

Does this mean the message was sent?  Does exchange need DCOM (sorry if this is a dumb question)?  If I see the "Message transferred to xxxx through SMTP" does this mean the recipient server has acknowledged receipt of the email?

Thanks for your help.

Answer : DCOM was unable to communicate with the computer using any of the configured protocols

If Message Tracking Center said that it was tranferred to the SMTP and you're not seeing a Non-Delivery report, then the message was delivered.  The 10009 error might be related to a DNS problem.  If your DNS working correctly and are there any Exchange or DCs that were removed recently?
