Question : CS2 crashes on updating and rendering text layer

Hi,

My CS2 (upgraded from PS6) crashes whenever i tried to open some PSD file with text. These files are done from PS6 and has no problems opening in either version. I am using XP SP2.

When i attempt to open the file in CS2, it wrote "Some text layers might need to be updated before they can be used for vector based output. do you want to update these layers now?" Selecting 'update' will tell me "couldnt complete your request becos of a program error". Then i proceed to edit the text layer, it wrote "Editing or rendering the text layer "xxx" will cause its layout to change. Continue?" When i clicked continue, CS2 simply closes by itself.

The files has no problem in performing any functions on the PS6 which is the original version sitting on that same machine.

Any kind advise?

That is a tough question!
I don’t have a solution, but you can try a workaround by moving the working layers to a blank new Photoshop document with the same dimensions / dpi etc . Then re-create the text layers from scratch.

Also try and trash the preferences – click the CS ican and hold down CTRL and ALT keys while its loading and it should re-set the preferences. (I’m a PC user)

Maybe check hard disk for bad sectors and do a defrag – but that’s a long shot.

Hope that helps
