Question : Repairing with eseutil /p - can I set up dialtone database in new folder?
|
|
Hi - our Exchange 2003 server wouldn't mount its store due to a missing log file, so we've moved all files out of the Exchsrvr\mdbdata folder except the edb and stm files and ran eseutil /p (and later isinteg -fix) against the priv1.edb file to repair the database.
The problem is that the information store is huge - near the 75gb limit so right now almost 12 hours later eseutil is still at "Deleting unicode fixup table". I know we can't interrupt this but I'd like to create a dialtone database in another folder so users can at least send and receive new mail while the repair finishes. (Wish I had moved the edb and stm's to a different folder before running eseutil)
Can I just create a new folder like 'Exchsrvr\mdbdata1' and go into First Storage Group Properties and change the system path and transaction log locations? Do I also need to change the paths under the Database tab in Mailbox Store Properties?
Also, assuming I can do the above, when the original databases are repaired in the Exchsrvr\mdbdata folder, how do I go about switching back from the temporary dialtone databases to the original databases?
Thanks in advance for any help
-Chris

Here is the article explaining what you need to do to in dialtone recovery and how to merge the recovered database with dialtone database: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa998947(EXCHG.65).aspx
However, you have a problem since you didn't move the files out of the MDBDATA folder before you started the eseutil process. When you tried to move the system path in ESM while eseutil is chucking away on the database, ESM will try to move to EDB/STM files to the new location and failed.
I would suggest that you stop the eseutil process, move those files out, start dialtone, and then eseutil.
