Question : When I install the chipset driver, my USB ports stop working

Hi,

I'm building a system for a friend.  Here's what's in it:

 - Intel DP35DP Motherboard
 - intel q6600 2.66
 - Transcend 2GB 240-Pin DDR2 800 RAM CAS5
 - 2 X Western Digital Caviar SE16 320 Gig
 - Koutech 4-Port FireWire 1394a/1394b PCI Express (x1) Card
 - Rosewill RD600N-2DC-SL-SLV ATX Form Factor 12V V2.2 / 12V 600W Active PFC Power Supply
 - EVGA 256-P2-N412-LR GeForce 7100GS 256MB GDDR2 PCI Express x16
 - 2 X SAMSUNG 20X DVD±R DVD Burner Black SATA Model SH-S203B

Here's the problem.  I install Windows XP Home on the system.  Everything works fine until I install the chipset driver.  When the machine reboots none of the USB ports work anymore.  This really sucks because the DP35DP doesn't provide PS/2 mouse and Keyboard support... only USB... so I'm not able to do anything after I install the chipset driver.  I've tried installing the Chipset driver first, middle and last and it makes no difference... as soon as it's installed the USB port don't work... I get no power to either mouse or keyboard.  I initially thought that this was a bad Motherboard and sent the first one back... got a brand new one and get the same problem.

When installing the operating system I needed to create a custom windows install disk fdor the SATA drivers.  I got a pack of drivers from this site:

http://driverpacks.net/DriverPacks/DriverPack.php?pag=m

And slipstreamed them all into the install.  I mention this cause I suspect a driver conflict... Is this possible?

There is a Microsoft Knowledgebase article that addresses this issue:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/921411

Before you install the chipset drivers, try first doing a windows update. Use the "Custom" option and install all the driver updates (usually "Optional Updates") on there.

When that's done. Restart the system, and install the latest drivers from this link:
