Changing your current ISP to one that can give you full access to the Internet, may be the best solution.
What you need to do, is check what is the package as different ISPs offer different types of service. Some support services such as VPN even though you may have to pay more for it.
(1) Do you actually need VPN?
VPN allows you to have an encrypted secured tunnel from your computer to a remote site. This way, information you exchange between the two sites, is secure.
There 3 types of VPN setups:
(a) Remote VPN: connect a remote employee, salesman or mobile worker, to the remote corporate head quarters.
(b) Intranet Site to Site (LAN to LAN): this type of VPN is used by sites belonging to the same company, in a LAN to LAN setup.
(c) Extranet Site to Site VPN: partners and supplier join together with the corporation, to build a LAN to LAN VPN setup.
You need the following:
- Client software on your computer, e.g. Cisco VPN Client, Nortel Contivity client etc
- Router / modem that connects your computer to the ISP
- Some information on the VPN server / gateway, e.g. IP addresss of the VPN gateway, authentication group and shared password (if you connect wtih a security token)
- Security token or digital certifcate.
