Question : sound comes out of headphones and not speakers at times

Sometimes when i browse the web and look at a video file, the sound doesn't come out my speakers but it will work if i plug in headphones and listen. Then at other times, the speakers and headphones will both work together. I have checked sound and audio devices in control panel. All the settings seem correct. It started happening when i installed a webcam, but i uninstalled it and the settings stayed. any suggestions?

Answer : sound comes out of headphones and not speakers at times

When you unplug the headphones, a contact in the socket must close to activate the speakers. If this only happens sometimes, then likely the socket is faulty. You may improve it (or kill it completely) by plugging and removing the headphone plug a few times quickly.
