Question : Exchange 2003 Outbound mail using smart host not sending to internal mail servers
Hi, I sure hope someone can assist me. I just set up a smart host (Sophos Appliance) in our environment. I can send/receive email just fine from outside our organization. However, I have two other internal mail servers that will stand alone and not utilize the Sophos filtering protection at this time (due to cost.) And my issue is related to these two other internal mail servers.
I can receive email from the internal mail servers on my Exchange 2003 box, but cannot send from my Exchange 2003 box to these other two internal mail servers.
I receive an "Undelivered Mail Returned to Sender"
"The mail system
:
host 123.45.678.9[123.45.678.9]
said: 550 5.7.1
Unable to relay for user@internalmailserver (in reply to RCPT TO
command)"
However, if I remove the smart host entry on the Exchange box, I can send to the internal mail servers just fine.
Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks for your time.
Bob
Answer : Exchange 2003 Outbound mail using smart host not sending to internal mail servers
The Virtual Server will push all email through the Smart host, and The SMTP Connector handles outbound email.
I'd suggest removing it from the SMTP Virtual Server and placing it in the SMTP Connector. That should resolve the issues.
