Question : Access NAS Device from External Network
|
|
I would like to access my LACIE 250 Ethernet Mini Disk remotely. How do I set this up? I have cable high speed internet and my router is a Linksys WRT54GC. (Home Setup)
Im using MAC OSX 10.4.10
My NAS Device works fine in my home network. I would like to access my drive from Work or lets say Starbucks.
Thanks Roberto

1. It depends if you've a fixed IP address on your internet connection .. if so .. you can enter ftp://fixedipaddress ... eg 81.121.22.99 This will only work once you've set up a NAT route through your Linksys WRT54GC to the NAS device. You also need to look in the controls for the Linksys WRT54GC. Look for NAT options and open port 21 on the Router and map it to the IP address of the NAS
2. If you don't have a fixed IP address, then use a service like dyndns to dynamically map to your router. Linksys routers often have a screen in the control panel for this.
Then perform the NAT translation as described in step 1 above
