Question : Grub Boot from CF disk as IDE Problem
Machine will not boot from CF disk used as IDE. It is /dev/hdc. Kind of involved story. Have 2 machines that boot and run from 512 CF disks. We pulled the CFs and made copy images of them using dd to .img files. Upon re-installing the CFs into their respective machines, they hang at GRUB we are not even getting to stage1.5 I have tried to dd the .img file back to other CFs and get missing operating system.
I have tried booting from a CD and re-installing grub with no results. the CFs are fat16 file systems

If you have filesystem errors, you probably have a problem with the hardware not being compatible to the drivers compiled into the kernel. In such a case I usually recompile the kernel with drivers for the disk controllers and filesystems not as modules, but included in the kernel.
