Question : svchost 100%

My clients processor is at 100%. Process explorer shows a batch of stuff in one svchost process which all looks pretty normal: I have seen the same processes working with no problem on other machines.

Following suggestions from other posters I have done the following

1 disable Windows Update
2 update Windows and AVG virus definitions
3 run a full AVG scan
4 install and run a full Spybot scan (in addition to Windows Defender)
5 using MSCONFIG disable all start up programs and services and reboot
6 uninstall all HP software
7 run iolo System Mechanic
8 checked that there is only one instance of svchost.exe, in the windows\system32 folder

I've now run out of ideas. It is time for a format and reinstall?

Answer : svchost 100%

Need to find out what services are loaded under that svchost. Windows Update is always out there, but it is not always the culprit...

Process Explorer for Windows v10.21
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sysinternals/ProcessesAndThreads/ProcessExplorer.mspx

Double click the offending file. If it is a svchost.exe, then Select the Services Tab. Please list what services are in that svchost.exe.

Then Select the Threads tab, and see what .exe or .dll is using the CPU, and then select it by double clicking it....and copying/pasting the call stack here.....
