Question : Repair/Installation stops with Fatal Error

Need to restore PC back, even with initial problem.
Original problem was Owners/Administrator's  account corrupted.
Booted but Taskbar missing. Tried all the fixes, Kellys Korner and the rest, with no luck.

Have 2 original Dell  Operating System Restoration Discs. (Owner thought original bad, Dell sent him another.)
Attmpted to do a Repain?Installation booting from the CD. (Have done many of these.)
Operation hung, for about an hour, and then a "Fatal Error" appeared.
with "Click OK to view setup file."

Message said:
"Setup has problems registering the following OLE:
C\Windows\System32\inipki.dll"

I get this using either Dell CD, always at the same point in setup.

Now when I boot without the CD and right after the "Windows XP" screen, I get the blue screen with "Setup is being restarted....."
which than goes right to the setup page and the Fatal Error message appears again.

Trying "Safe Mode" it goes to "Windows XP Setup: XP setup cannot continue in Safe Mode" and reboots when I click OK.

None of the "F8" Commands do anything but loop you back to the setup.

Have had this PC for almost a week.
Would really appreciate the help.

Pete

Answer : Repair/Installation stops with Fatal Error

You might try this.  Boot with the installer disk in the drive and if/when prompted to press any key to boot from CD, do so.  Let the installation start and get to the point where you would delete or create the partition.  Don't actually do anything to any of the partitions.  I believe at this point you should have an option (probably F3) to exit the installation.  Press F3 and the computer should reboot.  If this works properly you should have made Windows forget about the repair installation. If prompted to boot from CD DON'T.  See if Windows will just boot normally.
