Question : URGENT --- Neebie Needs Help Creating a Clone Image of my Aix 5.3 server

First off I know very little about AIX so please bare with me...

Right now I have a production Aix 5.3 server that has boot a 'rootvg' & 'vol1' volumes.
Right now we run a daly 'sysback' of both volumes. We just got a new idential server that will be a DR server that I need to have ready to go ASAP. Here is my problem..

1) I have read that I can only restore the 'rootvg' from a 'mksysb' backup and that I need the orginall installation media to do so.

2) I do not have the orginal installation media and when I try to create a 'mksysb' backup on my production server I keep getting the following message: "cannot access /dev/rmt0 device is busy or write protect" which both are not true becuase this is a new tape..

3) Can I restore BOTH volumes from a 'sysback' image ???

Answer : URGENT --- Neebie Needs Help Creating a Clone Image of my Aix 5.3 server

1) you do not need original install media to restore mksysb on same system. diag -a tells whats wrong with tape drive - like missing drivers or cleaning needed.
2) ask somebody who has media (USD50 if you ask IBM)
3) you can restore rootvg from mksysb, other volume groups have to be backed up and restored, and raw partitions like Oracle uses have to backed up their ways.
