Question : cd jewel case

what do those professional use to make the cd jewel case, i mean the whole thing including lyrics.  i can use adaptec cd creator to make the front and back no problem.  but my question is how to make lyrics so that they can be printed double sided easily?

Answer : cd jewel case

Professionals would use Quark, which will allow you to link all your text boxes together so you can drop the word doc in as a whole. And then hand it off to a professional printer...

If you want step by step... here ya go: (for standard Jewel Case)

BTW, If you know the difference between reader spreads and printer spreads, this will be easy. Also you set pages in multiples of 4, so this will give you an 8 or 12 page booklet...

1. Make a document that is 120mm tall and 240 mm wide. This is going to be a spread. (each page 120 x 120) Real graphic programs will let you set pages size like this.

2. Make text boxes inside each page, say give a 10mm border. Text box would be 100mm x 100mm. Make it as many columns as you like. Make 2 or 3 of these spreads.

3. This is where it gets tricky. It might be easier for you to take 3 or 4 sheets of paper and fold it in half, then number them 1-8 or 1-12 as you turn them. When you take it all apart you'll see (for a 12 page booklet, form left to right) that page 12 is next to page 1, and 2 is next to 11 and so on. These are called printer spreads. When it's all bound together and page 1 is opposite page 2, that's called a reader spread.

Quark will let you layout your text in reader spreads and then move all the pages into printer spreads.

4. So when it's all laidout the way you like it, rearrange it into printer spreads then print it out, 12 and 1 on one side, then 2 and 11 on the other, 10-3 and 4-9, 8-5 and 6-7. Don't forget crop marks. These will help you trim it out accurately.

Making these line up when you run the page through your printer will be a major pain, and probably a lot of trial and error.

5. Once you get them all together, staple them in order and trim off the excess paper, and you've got a jewel case booklet.

You can probably also do this with PM, but I've never used it so I can't help much there. If you have access to a larger printer you might could do this all on one sheet and fold it down then trim it, but that might be too much to explain here.

This is basically a simple bindery process. If it's not clear, mail me back or post additional.
