Question : Excel 2000 spreadsheets from Windows Explorer won't open unless I already have an Excel document open.

When I'm in Windows Explorer or Outlook and I double click a excel 2000 spreadsheet to open, the Excel 2000 application will open, but the spreadsheet part of it never appears.  It doesn't hang the machine up because I can click on the X in the right hand corner of the spreadsheet and it will close.  Does anyone have any clues?

When you tried to run regserver, did you add a space between the / and regserver (like it appears on your post)? If so, then regserver is interpreted as a file name rather than a switch. Hence, the error message you reported.

The correct syntax is with a space after Excel.exe, but no space between the / and regserver
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\Excel.exe /regserver
