Question : Can't get beyond home page

When I start IE it brings up www.google.com no prob. but if I try to go anywhere else the whole PC freezes with CPU load at 100% even in safe mode. I checked for Smitfraud (latest version) but no difference. If I execute IE from run bar with 'iexplore -extoff'. it seems ok. So then I disable all add-ons but no difference so where do I go from there?
