Question : IMAP Verizon client can't send email through SMTP virtual server

I have an Exchange 2003 server that allows IMAP PocketPC clients using Verizon to receive, but not send, email.  Relay restrictions and Access Control have been configured with our ISPs mail server to stop commercial email connections\relaying.

Any suggestions for allowing IMAP clients to send email while maintaining my relay security?

With activesync the users are setup as another exchange client, actually managing their mailboxes, not just receiving a duplicate message. You would setup activesync on the Handhelds (ie PDA, phone..) to sync with an exchange server INSTEAD of having a relationship with the PC. You would put in the external address of your exchange server (highly recommend using SSL here) and store the users Active Directory logon information. The exact order/screens of this process varies slightly from device to device, but as long as the users have the unlimited data plan, this is the way to go. You could setup the users to either manually sync (whenever they launch activesync on the handheld) or to poll the server every so often for changes. With Mobile 5.0 devices you can configure "Always-up-to-date" with the "deliver messages as they arrive option" which uses the Handheld's SMS ID to tickle for updates.
