Question : How to recover from partition table out of sync

I've got a dell 4600 running XP that died.  I am unable to boot from the CD drive.  I ran the dsrfix utility  http://www.goodells.net/dellrestore/files/dsrfix.zip  and it said that my partition table was out of sync.  "pbr descriptor 3 is type 00 not DB"

Does anyone  know how I can get this machine working again?

Thanks,
Matt

Answer : How to recover from partition table out of sync

A first step would be to boot into the Recovery Console:
http://www.windowsnetworking.com/articles_tutorials/wxprcons.html

When on the RC prompt, type:
fixmbr
and hit enter.

Reboot and check.

If no good, you may have to run TestDisk: http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/TestDisk

It must be started from a bootable CD. I recomment Parted Magic (www.partedmagic.com), which already has it included in its System Tools menu.
Here's a step-by-step guide for using TestDisk:
