Question : Have an unrecoverable 0kb Outlook PST file; cannot figure out how to get Outlook working again, even without the data

Here's an error I know you've all seen before:
Unable to display the folder. Microsoft Outlook could not access the specified folder location. The file C:\Documents and Settings\Gayle\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook\Outlook.pst

So,I have a 0kb Outlook.pst file, and I've accepted that it's unrecoverable (I've already tried Scanpst and Outlook Recovery Toolbox and a few other things I found on here to no avail.)

So, I'm ready to move on, import my most recent archive, download what messages are still on the server, get my contacts off a sync with my phone and vow to use IMAP forever and ever amen.

The problem is, no matter what I do, I still get this error. I tried importing my latest archive, got that error, and I don't no what to do next.

Please tell me what my next step should be, and please speak to me like a five year old, because that is about the skill level that should land a person in this kind of predicament.

Thanks in advance for the rescue...Lynne

Answer : Have an unrecoverable 0kb Outlook PST file; cannot figure out how to get Outlook working again, even without the data

From the Tools,  Email Accounts menu, select View or change existing email accounts, then Next to open the Email Accounts dialog:

Select the dropdown menu below Deliver new email to the following location and select the data store you want to use.

Select the file you wish to use and click Finish. You may need to restart Outlook for the changes to take effect.
