Question : Remote Access via Internet Explorer
|
|
We recently installed a new Dell PowerEdge server which came preinstalled with Windows 2003 SBS. I setup some users and configured Exchange OWA to allow them to view and send mail via any PC outwith the company which works a treat.
I believe that you can access your local desktop and use all its functionality and transfer files by a similar method doing away for the need for predefined VPNs etc. I have tried in vein to get this functionallity up and running both on the internal network and from outside, but cannot get it to work?
Can anyone assist me?

If the page cannot be displayed, you don't have the correct ports open on your router. These instructions are included in the Getting Started Guide which is pretty much required reading for deploying an SBS because of SBS's uniqueness as a PRE-CONFIGURED server environment.
See http://sbsurl.com/start for the guide.
You will need to open the following ports on your router for these services:
25 - SMTP 443 - HTTPS (for RWW and OWA) 444 - SharePoint 1723 - PPTP VPN 3389 - RDP for remote administration 4125 - Remote Web Workplace
Then, you MUST run the Configure Email and Internet Connection Wizard (CEICW -- linked as Connect to the Internet in the Server Management Console) to properly configure everything in the server for RWW as well as most all other network and email items.
A visual how-to for this is at http://sbsurl.com/ceicw
