Question : Unable to update software - Firefox and others, computer refuses to move forward

Hello,

Firstly, I have a problem with firefox when I go to a website with certain streaming video (fox.com, netflix.com) they tell me that I am not running a current enough web browser. I have the latest version of firefox. It does not recognize it. Things like java and flash are also up to date. I have uninstalled and reinstalled to no avail. I have used ccleaner also in between these actions to clean the registry of 'all' traces.

Also , I use this software from the USGS called Blossom. I want to update it. I should be able to just download the latest version and the old one should go away, it doesn't.  I have uninstalled, used ccleaner and deleted registry keys. But when I install the latest version I still end up with the previous one, which by the way doesn't work and that's why I am trying to update.

This is only happening on one of my machines. I have no idea whats going on.

Any suggestions on what the problem is and how to fix it?

Thanks,
JE

Answer : Unable to update software - Firefox and others, computer refuses to move forward

@ first case:
Are you running any kind of firewall, security suite, privacy software or even advanced anti-virus?
Disable all of those, and test the problematic websites again.

@ second case:
Use RevoUninstaller (www.revouninstaller.com) to get rid of the old version of that software. Apply one of the more advanced modes, but make sure beforehand that the registry backups made by Ccleaner are still available. If not, make your own backup using EruNT:
