Question : Data menu inactive for Excel files opened in IE

We have a user who just started having an odd problem today. She's running a web app that opens an Excel database in an Internet Explorer window (using IE6). She needs to sort the data. Although the Data menu is visible, when she clicks it the menu doesn't appear. Other menus work fine.

The environment is WinXP SP2 with Active Directory.

Any ideas where we should look? I have found this issue described in a few web postings, but no working solutions were to be found.

Answer : Data menu inactive for Excel files opened in IE

One thing you might try is go to View>Toobars>Customize--Toolbars, click the
Worksheet Menu Bar name, then click Reset. If that doesn't fix it, go back to
the same dialog box, but the Commands page. Drag the Tools Menu away from
the Menu Bar & let it go. From the left list select Built-In Menus and drag
Tools from the right list to the Menu Bar to replace the one that you
removed.
