Question : Outlook 2003 does not display images in preview pane.
I am having an issue where Outlook will not display the images received in an email. Sometimes they will show up if I actually open the message instead of just looking at it in the preview pane, and sometimes they are just not there at all.
I have tried the settings here:
http://office.microsoft.co
m/en-us/ou
tlook/
HP01
0859521033
.aspx
and it still will not download the pictures, is there somewhere else that this might be getting blocked?
I am not using Exchange, and my mail is hosted externally, I am POP ing it to Outlook 2003.
Answer : Outlook 2003 does not display images in preview pane.
I found a fix on another posting on a different tech support site, thought someone else might be interested in this:
Go into registry (Start -> Run -> regedit)
1. Locate the Outlook Temporary Items folder by opening the Registry and locating
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software
\Microsoft
\Office\11
.0\Outlook
\Security\
OutlookSec
ureTempFol
der
2. Navigate to the value of this Key. It should be something like: %USERPROFILE%\LocalSetting
s\Temporar
y Internet Files\OLK3D\ where OLK3D is some randomly generated string that always starts with OLK (you cannot browse to it, copy the address and paste it into your address bar to get there).
3. Quit Outlook
4. Delete the contents of the folder
5. Launch Outlook
Unfortunately on some pcs the problem keeps reoccurring. So you need to move the temp folder to a seperate location, and that should fix the issue permanently.
Permanent fix is (as permanent as a MS product can be)...
Go into registry (Start -> Run -> regedit)
1. Locate the Outlook Temporary Items folder by opening the Registry and locating
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software
\Microsoft
\Office\11
.0\Outlook
\Security\
OutlookSec
ureTempFol
der
2. Change the 'OutlookSecureTempFolder' key DATA value to: C:\documents and settings\"userprofile name"\Local Settings\Temp
Example:
Key value was:
C:\documents and settings\inetmann\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files
Changed it to:
C:\documents and settings\inetmann\Local Settings\Temp
