Question : not connecting to computer mapped as network drive

I have 5 pc's, all with XP service pack 2, mapped to a PC running Win 2000 which is designated as the data server for Quickbooks and Goldmine. It is a peer to peer network. When I formatted the drives and reinstalled software on 2 of the "client" computers in the workgroup, and remapped the "server" drive, they no longer automatically connect. When the clients are booted, they indicate that they cannot connect to all the mapped drives. When I open My Computer and click on the mapped server drive, I get the window that says: "connect to \\server_o1\steve. (Steve is my computer name.). The box says further that "incorrect password or unknown username for \\server..." There is no password as I did not set a password for any of the 5 clients. When I get that error screen, I just press enter and it connects and I am fine. Why is this happening and how do I correct it? It connected automaticall whitout these steps before I reformatted the drives.
