Question : How do I make a computer revert back to its original configuration at each log in/out?

Here is my situation:  I have a group of computers on a workgroup that are used by school children each day.  Is there any way to set the PC's up so that when a user logs out, all the setting (including the registry - thats the hard part) revert back to the way it was before.  It will take an eternity to lock all of these down per machine with local policy.  I thought about setting the policy for one and imaging it but there is no volume license.  Each PC has a different serial number that it came with.  Does it matter that each PC has a different serial with imaging, or just that a license exists for each PC.
