Question : Read a .ost file in standalone Outlook 2007 or 2003

I need to read/open a .ost file. I have two copies of Outlook 2033 and 2007.

Both of these sem to be only able to open .pst files. I have tried opening the .ost by changing the extension to pst (more in hope than anticvipation!) and also by adding the file in the "Datfile management" menu item under File on Oulook.

Please can someone show my a way to opend the file?

I'm afraid you need a special tool, which does not come cost free, to do something like that: http://www.recoverytoolbox.com/open_ost_in_outlook.html
There was a free tool for Outlook 2002, but I've never found anything that would work with newer versions. Maybe someone else knows better.
