Question : Insert Hyperlink in email in Outlook 2007 slow to initially display folders on networked My Documents

hi all,

I have a client to whom we've just provided a new PC, nice and fast, and they've installed Office 2007 on it.  The PC is on a Windows SBS2003 R2 based network, AD, Exchange etc.  It's a very simple setup, the SBS box is the only server, runs DHCP, DNS etc, no IAS, just a connection to a ADSL2 modem/router/firewall.

All users My Docs are redirected and hosted on the server, under \\server\Users\username.  Network all appears fine, opening up network drives (including My Docs) is fast under Explorer, pretty much comes up instantly.

However, when this user creates a new email in Outlook 2007, then chooses Insert, then Hyperlink, there is a delay of up to 10-12 seconds before the list of folders/files shows up in the dialog window.  It initially lists the My Docs folder so it is loading the files/folders off the server.  During this waiting period you can't do anything, clicking on the folder dropdown gives a not responding message, and everything is locked until it loads the file/folder list.  This delay did not happen on his old machine with Outlook 2003.

This delay also does not happen for other users using Outlook 2003, and also does not happen for another user with Outlook 2007 with a similar amount of files/folders in their My Docs network folder.

I have played with NIC settings, updated the NIC driver, but it seems to be an Outlook 2007 issue as loading of his my docs file/folder list seems fast everywhere else.

Any ideas?  Is there some kind of cache setting i can enable?  Would enabling Offline Files/Folders for this folder speed things up as would it then be looking locally initially for the files?  How do I go about this?

ta!

Id kjsut like to say that I had this exact same problem and it was caused by a shortcut to an invalid folder in the redirected my documents!! I deleted the shortcut from the root of the folder and it works!!
