Question : acrobat 6.0 fails to print word 2003 doc on server 2003 terminal server

hi. microsoft word 2003 on a terminal server running server 2003 sp2
adobe acrobat 6.0 installed
office won't print to adobe, though other apps will
i replaced the icc file and turned off color management. no dice.
this is the standard office 2003 professional install (no handwriting manager, etc.)
max points and grade to anyone who solves this for me.
the specific error message is:
adobe pdf printer failed to create the pdf file
the error message only appears when trying to use the toolbar button. it does not appear when selecting the adobe printer manually, however the document does not print in either scenario.
both programs have been wiped out and reinstalled
the little adobe print dialog box always makes it to "Converting to Adobe PDF" before stalling out
