Question : IIS role has a red X

On the Server Manager, the IIS server role listing has a red X through it. I'm guessing it think it's not enabled and that's why our website is down. So how do I re enable the role?

Answer : IIS role has a red X

Its because you made the change in IIS and not in sharepoint central administration. So your IIS settings are configured correctly but sharepoint still thinks that you are using SSL and on port 443. In general when working with sharepoint ALL changes to IIS should be made through the SharePoint central administration tool.
Login there go to application management and general application settings. Change to port 80 and not use SSL and it should work again.
