Question : Outlook/Exchange - Very Slow

I have a client connecting to Exchange '03 via Outlook 2007, with all of the latest patches/updates applied as of Dec. 10, 2008.

My client has a large mailbox, approx. 20GB in size, but always keeps the inbox, sent items, and key folders empty. Symantec Antivirus 10 is being used for antivirus.

Whenever a message is opened in outlook, the machine seems to slow right down, and Outlook hangs (likely waiting on the server). This seems to take much longer when a message with an attachment is opened. I've tested this several times over, and it seems as if the attachment and message are both being downloaded whenever a message is viewed.

I have disabled all Outlook plugins through the Trust Center, and Outlook is still ridiculously slow when it comes to traversing folders and opening messages. Any assistance would be greatly appreiciated.

Answer : Outlook/Exchange - Very Slow

you can try removing anti virus from the affect machine and see if that improves its performance. if not the the problem is not the av is the size of the mailbox. you can find the cleanwipe tool to remove sav from the client here http://www.experts-exchange.com/Software/Internet_Email/Anti-Virus/Symantec/Q_23798519.html

Also what version of sav its running in the client. the orginal release 10.0 all the way to 10.1.6 had several memory leaks and performance fixes
