Question : Exchange HTTP Proxy Issue
|
|
I am running Exchange 2003 w/ SP2 on an SBS 2003 Server. I have VPN's from most of the home offices but when Outside of the LAN or a VPN I am having an issue with Exhchange and Outlook. When setting up an exchange account on a PC, using Outlook 2003 or 2007, and using the 'Connect to Microsoft Exchange ussing HTTP' option I get the followinf error because we have not urchased a certificate from a certificate authority. I really would like to avoid this purchase if possible.
Error: There is a problem with te proxy server's security certificate. The security certificate is not from a trusted certificate autority.
Outlook is unable to connect to the proxxy server www.whatever.com. (Error Code 8).
I have the following options set on the 'Microsoft Exchange Proxy Settings Tab'... https://www.whatever.com Connect using SSL Only (Greyed out) On fast networks connect using HTTP first then connect using TCP/IP - ticked On slow networks connect using HTTP first then connect using TCP/IP - ticked Basic Authentication
Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks so much :)

If you look at Verisign/Entrust etc. I personally feel the Verisign certificates are a rip off - 40 bit certificates. Oh so you get insurance... big deal.
There are lots of suppliers at the low end of the market. RapidSSL sell theirs for US$60 a year, less if you look around for a reseller. InstantSSL are a similar price. GoDaddy do theirs for US$20. Little more fiddly to install, but only adds a few minutes as long as you do it correctly.
RapidSSL have a 30 day trial certificate which can be a good thing to do to get used to the process. GoDaddy certificates are compatible with Windows Mobile 5.0 with MSFP, as are InstantSSL.
