Question : SMTP Virtual Server Access Settings
|
|
Hello,
I have an SBS 2003 Server with Exchange. In the Properties of the SMTP Virtual Server, Authentication button, I have Anonymous Access, Basic Authentication, and Integrated Windows Authentication checked. In Relay Restrictions, I have "Only the list below" selected with nothing in the computers section. "Allow all computers which successfully authenticate to relay, regardless of the list above" is not checked. I understand that last setting is mainly for if you want your POP3 clients to use your server to send mail through, and then you should use Basic Authentication and TLS encryption for their password. My question is this: if I check the "Allow all computers..." box so my POP3 clients can send and not have to change their smtp server if they connect at different ISPs, will that make my server an open relay since Anonymous Access is selected as an Authentication option?
Thanks,
Jamie

sorry, the "anonymous" is talking about other servers sending TO you...this would not be relaying as they are delivering a message to your system, and they need permission to access it, i.e. anonymous.
