Question : SQL Can't find Virtual Server

SQL 2k5 on Win 2k3, fully patched. Clustering is enabled and working, but
when I attempt to log on with Surface Area Configuration app, I cannot change to the virtual server
name, when I enter the name (FQDN or simple name) i get the error:
"Computer xxxx does not exist on the network, or the computer cannot be
configured remotely. Verify that the remote computer has the required Windows
Management Instrumentation components then try again"
The name xxxx is in DNS and I can ping it. WMI reports no errors

If I use the IP address, i get the following error:
"You cannot configure surface area of clustered sercies by connecting to a
computer name. Connect tot he cirtual server to configure clustered services"
I know that the IP resolves back to the Host in this instance. A very misleading error message - one must use the virtual name.

Anyone have an idea why the SAC app won't resolve the name? I've tried
silly things like:  tcp:xxxx and xxxx:1433 and others, still no resolution.
thanks
bill

Answer : SQL Can't find Virtual Server

The final fix was to uninstall (again) and reinstall both clustering and SQL 2k5. No issues with the new install.
