Question : Offline Folders issue under XP

I have offline folder enabled on my laptop to synch a network share (Server 2003) and all of its subfolders and files.

If I add a new folder or file to the network share, it synchs and is available offline.

If another user adds a new folder or file to the network share, it DOES NOT synch and IS NOT available offline. I can see the new folder when online but its icon does not show the two circular arrows indicating that is configured for offline synchronisation.

Is this an XP / 2003 limitation or am I missing something in the configuration of offline folders?

Answer : Offline Folders issue under XP

the offline folder automatically adds folders that you create because your the owner of that folder

If another user adds a folder, you are not the owner thus it does not automatically add it.  That's not to say that you don't have permissions to see the folder. It just means you have to manually make the folder offline by right clicking it.

FYI, making an offline folder that you share with other users is a BAD idea.  Offline sync is done by modified dates.  If you modify a file offline and then someone else modifies a file, you can potentially delete their modifications or vice versa
