Windows XP Pro is not a multiuser OS like UNIX, Linux, or Windows 2K (Terminal Server Enabled), so if you intend to have users running applications remotely, you must have a Multiuser OS.
Diskless workstations involve the use of a TFTP Server to host client system images, a BOOTP server to assign IP address, and so on. If this is your scenario, you will have to implement some UNIX solution.
If you are thinking to run your apps under Windows, you should implement CITRIX Metaframe running on Windows 2000 Server. CITRIX has a client software for unix/linux OS enabling these systems to create a remote session with win2k. In this way you can have diskless workstations.
