Question : SMTP Error 550 The recipient cannot be verified
one of my salesmen is getting the following message on many of the emails he sends out. they are getting bounced back with the message
The following recipient(s) could not be reached:
******@*************.net on 6/19/2007 1:58 PM
There was a SMTP communication problem with the recipient's email server. Please contact your system administrator.
echo is my exchange 2003 server with SP2. any suggestions or clues as to what this is and why he is the only employee I have getting this message. He gets the same message on emails to other domains as well.
Answer : SMTP Error 550 The recipient cannot be verified
Well if your server is announcing itself as echo.BMD.local then that is the first problem you need to fix.
ESM, Servers,
, Protocols, SMTP. Right click on the Default SMTP VS and choose Properties, then Delivery and Advanced. Change the FQDN to match the external DNS name of your server (mail.domain.com for example).
I would suggest putting your domain in to dnsreport.com and see if it flags anything in the mail server section. If it does then you need to fix those problems.
Otherwise it could be a problem with an external server. Do you send your email directly or via a smart host?
Simon.
