Question : CONNECTIVITY ISSUES WITH SQL SERVER EXPRESS 2008, WINDOWS SERVER 2003 AND XP

Hi There,

I have installed sql server express 2008 on a terminal server. The terminal servers operating system is windows server 2003.  Its 64bit.

When I try to create the ODBC connection on windows xp (32bit) computer it gives an error:
SQL SERVER DOES NOT EXIST OR ACCESS DENIED

Server management studio opens fine on server with sa password.

Server location and passwords fine on ODBC connection.

Have no idea why it is failing.  Can anyone help please?

Answer : CONNECTIVITY ISSUES WITH SQL SERVER EXPRESS 2008, WINDOWS SERVER 2003 AND XP

Hi Mco32,

To access the SQL configuration manager:

Navigate through the start menu to  Microsoft SQL Server 2008 > Configuration Tools and click on SQL Server Configuration Manager.

Alternatively you can Go to Start > Run and type SQLServerManager10.msc

When it appears, in the Left hand tree view, expand the item "SQL Server Network Configuration"  and click on Protocols for  where is the name of the SQL Server you wish to configure.

You will then notice that a list of protocols will appear in the right hand pane.  Ensure that TCP/IP and Named Pipes are enabled by right clicking on each one and selecting Enable.

Hope this helps :-)

Drew.
