Question : Windows Server 2000 Decommission
|
|
Hi, Our current AD environment is this: Server 1 - Windows 2000 DC (first server installed) Server 2 - Windows 2003 DC Server 3 - Windows 2003 (Member Only)
What I would like to do is decommission the 2000 server and make Server 3 a DC. My understanding of the process is this:
1. Move all data/applications from Server 1. 2. Transfer the FSMO roles from Server 1 to Server 2 3. Run DCPROMO to demote Server 1 4. Adjust domain functional level to 2003 5. Run DCPROMO to promote Server 3
Is there anything I have missed, or would it be better to adjust the order of the tasks in some way? Thanks

Answer : Windows Server 2000 Decommission

Hi,
yes the steps are very correct. Just consider WHAT appliactions you are removing from Server 1. I mean especially those, that could be affecting AD like Exchange server for instance. If you have nothing like that on server 1, go ahead.
